First, let’s see what the term “phrasal verb” means.

  • Phrasal = connected with a phrase

  • Phrase = a group of words

phrasal verb is a verb that is combined with a preposition. The combination creates a new meaning.

For example:

Run down = to move very quickly with your legs on a straight path.

Example: She runs down to the park every morning.


look into = to look deep into something.

Example: He looked into my eyes.


Run into = to meet someone or something by chance.

Example: I ran into John yesterday.


Phrasal verbs are very common in the English language. If you know them well, it will help you understand other people and express yourself clearly.
